DBACW Battle of Kernstown Part 3

Work..Work..Work... yawn - no time for play.

Right, the final session of our Battle of Kernstown.  The Union forces are spread thin, Jacksons Brigade are assaulting the main hill in the centre held by the Union Artillery.  Could Jack get his Union troops in a position to win the day? 


On come the Stonewall Brigade, straight into the Union Cannons..

On the far Rebel left, Tyler's Union Brigade attack.

Casualties mount in the centre right, the Rebs are holding their own.

It's too much for Jack, he's had enough & his Union troops retreat...

Victory for the Confederates & well within the time limit too.  DBACW works well, another hit from KISR.  There's some nice touches to it.  Morale does play a big part we felt, the Stonewall Brigade was rock hard.  Jack did get his tactics wrong for holding them back.  Time's short - I'll try and add more thoughts later...

DBACW Battle of Kernstown Part 2

Part 2 of our epic clash, Jack took command of the Union forces & yours truly the Confederates.  Both sides had three Infantry Brigades, however the Union artillery were massed under a separate Brigade, whereas the Rebs had their Artillery distributed.  To win the battle, the Confederates had to capture the hill held by Baum's Brigade, otherwise the Union side would come up trumps.  The battle would be timed, about twenty turns.  Each turn would be approximately 20 'real' minutes on the battlefield.

The Rebs main force would be the Stonewall Brigade heading straight for 'the hill'.  On the left, was Fulkerson's small Brigade, who would fight a holding action.  The other two Reb Brigades would try to lure away the bulk of the Union army.  Would Jack's Yankees take the bait...?

It's going well for the Rebs, Jack's Union forces have got bogged down.  Can he turn it around OR will the Stonewall Brigade be blown away in a whiff of grapeshot????

DBACW Battle of Kernstown Part 1

 
GET YOUR BANJO'S OUT!!!!
Dinga, ding, ding, ding, dinga, dinga ding, ding ding ding.....look away... look away.... 

The Fighting Fazzies are doing the American Civil War using KISR's DBACW rules!  As a nice starter we'll be running a few games around the 'Jackson in the Valley' campaign.  That splendid mag WARGAMES SOLDIERS & STRATEGY has a couple of battles detailed in the issue pictured below. (Well I say used to be splendid - that and MINIATURE WARGAMES have had makeover lately...can't say I enjoy the new products! 'If it ain't broke then don't fix it!!!')


 

Anway back to the Civil War, DBACW uses the BRIGADE as it's main functional unit.  A Brigade is made up of a few elements, lead by a Brigade Commander (stand alone figure).  He has a rating and has a PiP total.  The CinC still rolls a dice for PiPs and allocates as he see's fit.  Elements consist of Rifles, Sharpshooters, Cavalry, Baggage & Artillery - of which there's more types.  Again as with KISR rules, easy to play.
