DBC British vs Zulus 'Escape from MBoto Gorge'

General Cholmondley-Warner leads the Column away from MBoto Gorge...

Alright, it has only took us ELEVEN years to play a follow up to the famous British defeat at MBoto Gorge.   After 'refreshing' our Victorian British, it was only natural to give them a try out.

Due to the LOCKDOWN, SPAV had to stay away.  My opponent for this one was my son Jack.  It cost me a bottle of Red Wine from the deep cellar of Fazzy Mansions, to bribe him into playing.   I would take the Brits & Jack the Zulu.

We used the D B Colonial rules from KISR for this one.

The Battlefield, the Brit Column starts on the table.
The Light Horse Relief start in the bottom right.
The Zulu can appear on any of the Western OR Northern edge.
The Brit Column just has to reach the exit point.
The Zulu has to destroy it.

Major Burnford leads the heroic Light Horse.

ZULU!!!!

The Brit Rearguard would perform heroically!!!

FIRE!!!!!!

The Skirmishers keep the Zulu at bay...

The Light Horse split into two columns, each screening the flanks of the main column.

Mister VERRIKA!!    Mister VERRIKA!!!

Two Zulu elements close with the Skirmishers.

The Zulu keeps pace with the column.

Oh dear... More Zulu's!

PICK YOUR TARGETS!!!

The Dice Gods smile down on the Brits today.

YES!
Get a move on Cholmondley-Warner, Old Fruit...

I dance a little Jig...

Loads of movement now, the game is flowing.

The Skirmishers assist the Light Horse.

FIRE!!!!!!

Good shooting.

A steady line is formed to accept the new threat...

Hear the Puuurrr of the Martini-Henry....

Some of the Zulu are forced back...

Satellite View. . . . . .

CHARGGEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

CCHHARRGEE!!!

CCHHHARRGGEE!!!

The Dice Gods shine on the Brits again..
Both units Fall Back.

The Light Horse in DBC can EVADE.
ALL the Light Horse make their rolls.

It's going to be 'one of those days' for the Zulu.

Great PiP's lead to great movement..

A Light Horse element links up with the skirmishers.

The main column inches along.

The Zulu need to get organized for another attack.

FIRE!!!!!

COR BLIMEY GUVNER, HERE THEY COME AGAIN!!!

CCHAARRGEE!!

The odds favoured the Zulu on this combat,
but the Dice Gods shine on the Brits again.

GER OUT OF IT!!

Looking good Cholmondley-Warner, Old Bean...

A nice protective screen covers the main column now.

FIIIIRRRRREE!!!!

Oh dear, the poor Zulu...

Final turn, Satellite View . . . .

One final push for the Zulu...

Whoops, NO EVADE for these Light Horse...

Some of the Mounted Coppers peg it though..

Natal Light Horse Evade!

General Cholmondley-Warner pulls it off.

Keep firing lads...

Textbook retreat.

Pile on the misery...

Game Over.

Cheers Phil

It was a nice game, rather one sided though. For the Natives(Zulu, Afghan, Sudanese) to win combat, you need plenty of overlaps & get stuck in ever round.

Gaming inspiration has been low for the last few months, maybe I can get out the British Cavalry for a painting refresher.

Keep up the good work on your blog my friend!

All the Best
